Welcome to Quickie, the podcast that shoots straight from the lip. My name is Nevena and sitting across from me is someone so radiant, I’ve had to wear sunglasses just to look at her face.
If you’re tuning in for the first time, Quickie is my chance to get lucky and sit down with an amazing woman and talk both shit and shop with her.
My guest this week is a bright spark in the long, dark night. Many may recognise her as one of greatest assets in our fine city and the woman behind some of the best nights out you’ve ever had.
Katie Pearson is a DJ, club organiser, legend, and spokesperson for Listen, a national lobby group committed to gender equality in the music scene. The issues Listen advocate for range from the underrepresentation of females on festival bills, addressing sexual harassment and assault in music venues, and urging musicians not to tolerate band members who are known abusers.
As DJ Whiskey Houston, she has a reputation for erupting parties into euphoric, sweaty messes: spinning her picks from the late ‘70s to early ‘90s; to stoke up a late night on the tiles. Though I’m not one to pit women against each other, I would just like to highlight that Katie has just been named one of 11 of the biggest and best female DJs in Australia too boot!
As a club organiser, she’s blessed us with fab nights like Danceteria, Flawless, and “gay-ass disco” The Outpost.
With a smile that’s so intense it’s probably responsible for melting the ice-caps, welcome to Quickie Katie.
