Welcome to Quickie, the podcast that shoots straight from the lip.
My name is Nevena and I’m very pleased to be sitting with an incredibly powerful woman who has forged her own path to the top of her podium.
Lucy Valentine is a rockstar, musical journalist, US sports lover, legal transcriptionist political satirist, SBS comedy writer and all round legend in the game.
Those who’ve had the pleasure of her online presence, will attest to its brilliance and retweetability. She frequently issues the kinda of one liners I love to read, for example, “my fav part of monopoly is how regular jail time is a routine part of being a property mogul.”
Lucy completed a Philosophy degree at Monash University and made the mistake that so many politicians have done before her, and headed to Canberra. Unlike her parliamentary counterparts, she finished her master’s degree in law and then went on to a career that has actually enriched Australia.
Although her Linkedin hasn’t been updated in a while, I implore you to ac- quaint yourself with Lucy’s online presence. Her back catalogue of work for SBS Comedy distills the convoluted landscape of Australian news and current affairs in a way that connects you with the issue, but also allows you to retain some sanity while doing so.
So much renowned political satire has come from men; from The Chaser, Clarke & Dawe, Shaun Miccallef and Sammy J, so it’s particularly refreshing seeing her powerful prose take front and centre.
Hater of craft lover, lover of Riverdale, and my kind of woman, happy international women’s day, Lucy Valentine.
